ALL-STAR Games Recap 2011

The games were held on May 21, 2011 at Mesa Community College

Tempe McClintock senior guard Cameron Forte has yet to sign with a college to play basketball, but he certainly showed Saturday night he can play with anybody in Arizona. He had 32 points to lead the South over the North 113-109 in the Arizona Basketball Coaches Association Class 4A-5A Seniors All-Star Game at Mesa Community College. (16 of the 20 players have committed)

It was the last of six all-star games played and the second-highest scoring game. Two 20-minute halves were played for each game.

Alan Williams, a 6-7 center who was part of two state championship teams at North High during his career, led the North All-Stars with 33 points. He is headed to UC Santa Barbarba to play in college.
Goodyear Millennium's Tyler Russell had 18 points, Tolleson's Brandon Pineda had 13 and Tempe's Jordan Baker 12 for the South. The North team was also led by Mesa Mountain View's Jaren Sweeney (18 points) and Scottsdale Desert Mountain's Peter Smith (17), Scottsdale Saguaro's Jack Connors (15) and Laveen Betty Fairfax's Pierre Newton (14).

Republic Big Schools girls basketball Player of the Year Promise Amukamara of Glendale Apollo had 28 points and Syerra Davis of Tolleson added 21 to lead the North over the South 91-81 in the Girls Seniors All-Star Game.

Gabby Washington of Mesa Desert Ridge led the South scorers with 25 points.

In the highest-scoring game on the day, the East beat the West 119-102 in the underclassmen boys all-star game. Phoenix Arcadia guard Larry Lewis (class of 2012), who already has committed to USC, led the East with 23 points, followed by Tucson Amphitheater swingman Tim Derksen's 18 and Tolleson forward Stacy Davis' 16.

The West was led by Chandler Basha forward Torren Jones' 34 points.
Desiree Smith and Lauren Evans each had 16 points to lead the West girls over the East 92-61 in the underclassmen girls all-star game. Marana forward Jamee Swan of Marana had 25 points to lead the East.
In the 1A-3A seniors all-star games, the North boys won 111-96 and the South girls won 85-59. Northwest Christian guard Dakota Anderson led the North boys with 23 points and St.. Michaels guard Kurtis Silversmith chipped in 22. The South team was led by Safford star Brandon McEuen's 36 points (the most point scored by anybody on the day).

Jessica Hancock of Safford and Stacey Jones of Chandler Valley Christian each had 20 points to lead the South girls in their victory. The North's Felencia Keams of Winslow had 22 points, including seven 3-pointers.

Torren Jones won the slam dunk contest.

The games were great, the gym was full. What a great experience for all those who participated. Looking forward to next years games. We're (ABCA) getting bigger and better every year.
