Letter to ALL ARIZONA COACHES!
I’d like to invite you to join the Arizona Basketball Coaches Association (ABCA). We are a dynamic, progressive association dedicated to preserving and promoting the integrity of high school basketball in Arizona.
As an ABCA member, you’ll receive the following :
- Discounted registration fee to the annual fall ABCA basketball coaching clinic.
- Professional development opportunities that provide recertification hours toward your coaching and teaching certificate.
- A communication network with fellow coaches……for example……. need a pre-season scrimmage?.......a tournament opportunity?.......fill a schedule?......or just need to get information out to all the coaches?.....the ABCA can help you with that.
- A platform for effecting positive change in the sport and the political support to back it up.
- Camaraderie of fellow coaches.
- Opportunity to nominate your players for all-star recognition – if selected they get to play in the all-star games at US-Airway Center, home of the Phoenix Suns and Mercury.

A few of the ABCA are:
- Annual fall coaches’ clinic - past speakers have included: Lute Olson, Herb Sendek, Sean Miller, Mike Adras, Charli Turner-Thorne, and Russ Pennell.
- Boys and girls senior all-star games in May at US Airways Center.
- Boy’s underclassmen all-star game in May at US-Airway Center. We will add a girl’s underclassmen game this year.
- Summer state championship: A summer-ending, single-elimination tournament that brings the excitement of regular season play.
- Coach of the Year recognition.
- Hall of Fame recognition.
ABCA goals will be to continue the coaching clinic, all-star games, summer state championship, coach of the year, hall of fame, and to initiate change where needed.
There are many issues that impact the future of high school basketball. As a basketball association we would like to address each of the following issues and any others that will help promote this great game in a positive way.

- power points system
- playoff formats
- conference classifications
- all-star selection process
- transfer rules
- off-season participation
- 3-man officiating crews
- referee evaluation system
- shot clock
- relationships with the A.I.A., school administrators, parents, and club ball programs
- opportunities to serve as a region rep and vote on basketball issues in your conference
